Three teenagers sentenced for terrifying knifepoint robbery in Bolton

Three teenagers (a 16-year-old male and two 17-year-olds) from Bolton were sentenced for a knifepoint robbery at Harry’s Off Licence on Beverley Road. The incident occurred on January 5, 2025, where the shop owner was threatened with a knife and cash was stolen. The trio was quickly apprehended after police traced their taxi bookings. They pleaded guilty to robbery, with one also admitting to possession of a bladed article. Sentences included community and youth referral orders, plus compensation. The investigation involved coordinated efforts between CID and uniformed officers, leading to the recovery of the stolen property and the weapon.

Three teenagers who staged a knifepoint hold-up at Harry’s Off Licence on Beverley Road were caught within hours after detectives traced the taxis they used to reach and leave the scene.

The masked 16-year-old who stormed behind the counter at about 8 pm on Sunday 5 January 2025 pressed a blade toward the shopkeeper while two 17-year-old accomplices waited outside. Cash was grabbed from the till and the trio sped off in a pre-booked cab, but officers quickly discovered they had also arrived by taxi earlier that evening.

When the same firm accepted a second booking from the group later that night, patrols were lying in wait. All three Bolton youths were arrested, the stolen money and the knife were recovered, and they were charged and remanded the same night.

Last week at Bolton Crown Court the 16-year-old admitted robbery and possession of a bladed article; his co-accused pleaded guilty to robbery. Each was sentenced to community and youth referral orders and must pay compensation.

Chief Inspector Chris Boyd praised the “swift and joined-up investigation” that saw uniformed officers gather CCTV and witness statements while detectives contacted local cab companies. “Information shared from uniformed colleagues’ enquiries allowed detectives to focus on local taxi firms,” he said. “Officers also recovered the stolen property and the weapon used in the offence.”
