Three arrests made as officers from our Specialist Operations pursue vehicle in Bury

Police responded to an aggravated burglary involving a firearm in Whitefield, arresting three suspects after a vehicle pursuit. The suspects, two men aged 55 and 37 and a woman aged 54, were apprehended by armed officers and remain in custody. The vehicle was seized for forensic analysis. Superintendent Paul Walker praised the swift and coordinated efforts of GMP’s Specialist Operations, highlighting their role in preventing harm and combating crime across Greater Manchester.

Armed police arrested three suspects within minutes of an aggravated firearm burglary in Whitefield early Wednesday, seizing their vehicle after a brief pursuit along Manchester Road.

Greater Manchester Police’s armed response units reached the victim’s home around 2.30am on 15 January 2025, while Specialist Operations officers simultaneously tracked and stopped the suspects’ car heading towards Whitefield. Armed officers quickly detained the occupants without injury.

A 55-year-old man, 37-year-old man and 54-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and remain in custody awaiting questioning by Bury’s Criminal Investigation Department. The vehicle has been seized for forensic examination.

Superintendent Paul Walker of GMP’s Specialist Operations said: “The work done by our Specialist Operations branch is invaluable and shows the importance of specialist teams using their skills to work together. The outcome could have been very different but because of the quick-thinking actions of the officers no one was injured.”

Walker added that Specialist Operations teams work continuously across Greater Manchester, noting that other Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit officers made burglary arrests in South Manchester the same morning after recovering a stolen vehicle.
