Data from the Home Office reveals that, in the 12 months to March 2025, Greater Manchester Police recorded 319,131 crimes excluding fraud. That represents a 7% drop - about 24,000 fewer incidents - compared with the previous year.
Despite the decline, Manchester itself remains the most crime-affected district in the conurbation. The city recorded 86,696 non-fraud crimes over the year, down 8% but still translating to a rate of 152 crimes per 1,000 residents - the highest locally and the sixth-highest rate out of more than 300 policing neighbourhoods in England and Wales.

Overall, the survey shows that experiences of theft, criminal damage and violent crime have continued a broad downward trend since the mid-1990s.
