Teenage burglary suspects arrested after trying to escape through Stockport gardens
Two teenage burglary suspects, aged 14 and 15, were arrested in Stockport after attempting to steal motorbikes and fleeing through gardens. The suspects were tracked and apprehended by the Tactical Dog Unit, specifically PD Harley. Superintendent Paul Walker highlighted the unit's readiness and effectiveness in responding to such incidents across Greater Manchester.
Two teenage boys are in custody after a police dog tracked them through residential gardens in Stockport following an attempted burglary in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Officers responded to reports of a break-in around 4am on Canterbury Road in Offerton, where suspects had already stolen one motorbike from a garage and returned to steal another. As the teenagers attempted to flee the scene, police dog Harley picked up their trail and pursued them through neighboring gardens, leading to their arrest.
The suspects, aged 14 and 15, were taken into custody on suspicion of burglary and remain detained for questioning. Superintendent Paul Walker from GMP Specialist Operations praised the swift response: “Offenders had already stolen one motorbike and were seen returning shortly after and attempted to steal another one. The suspects made off through gardens before being tracked down by PD Harley and arrested.”
Walker emphasized the daily importance of the Tactical Dog Unit’s work across Greater Manchester. “These types of jobs happen each and every day across Greater Manchester as the Tactical Dog Unit supports the force 24 hours a day, every day. Calls for the unit’s support come in at any time and frequently during the night, and we are always ready to react and respond immediately. That is why all our dogs and handlers are trained to the highest standards and we will continue our patrols and are determined to keep our communities safe using all the resources available to us.”
