Statement on no further action being taken in data manipulation inquiry
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has announced that no further action will be taken against seven suspects in the investigation into data manipulation at Randox Testing Services and Trimega Laboratories Ltd. pre-2017 due to lack of funding for analysing the extensive materials recovered. The decision may be revisited if resources become available. The situation is frustrating for those affected by potential miscarriages of justice in cases relying on these companies' test results. GMP will support future reviews by the Ministry of Justice and Criminal Cases Review Commission.
Seven suspects investigated for alleged data manipulation at Randox Testing Services and Trimega Laboratories Ltd. will face no further action, Greater Manchester Police announced Tuesday, citing insufficient funding to analyze massive evidence troves seized before 2017.
The decision ends a years-long effort by investigators who recovered unprecedented volumes of material from both forensic testing companies but lacked resources to process it. Assistant Chief Constable Rick Jackson, GMP’s lead for crime, intelligence and forensics, acknowledged the outcome delivers a blow to potentially thousands whose court cases relied on disputed test results.
“This is, of course, frustrating for people across the country whose lives have been affected by civil, family, and criminal court cases which have relied on test results from these companies and could have been miscarriages of justice,” Jackson said. He emphasized the force would reopen investigations if funding becomes available and pledged continued cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and Criminal Cases Review Commission on case reviews.
GMP also committed to sharing evidence with the Forensic Science Regulator to safeguard future testing integrity, while acknowledging the decision came only after exhaustive attempts to secure necessary analytical funding failed.
