Statement following IOPC charge of GMP TVIU officer
Assistant Chief Constable Chris Sykes of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) acknowledged the Crown Prosecution Service's decision to charge a Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit (TVIU) officer with death by dangerous driving. GMP has cooperated with the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation, and the officer continues to receive support from GMP and the GMP Federation.
A Greater Manchester Police officer from the Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit has been charged with death by dangerous driving, the Crown Prosecution Service announced today.
Assistant Chief Constable Chris Sykes confirmed the charges and stated that the force has fully cooperated with the Independent Office for Police Conduct’s investigation. “We have cooperated with the Independent Office for Police Conduct’s investigation throughout,” Sykes said.
The officer, whose identity has not been released, continues to receive support from both the Greater Manchester Police and the GMP Federation while facing the serious charges. “The officer continues to receive the support of GMP and the GMP Federation,” Sykes confirmed.
