Series of arrests made in north Manchester following great teamwork from GMP units

Five men were arrested in north Manchester following a coordinated effort by multiple Greater Manchester Police (GMP) units, including the Tactical Dog Unit, Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, Drone Unit, and National Police Air Service helicopter. A stolen car was tracked and abandoned, leading to the recovery of a shotgun and live ammunition. One suspect was charged, another remains in custody, and a third was released on bail. Three additional men were arrested on suspicion of firearm possession and other offenses. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities urging the public to provide any relevant information. GMP also highlighted the addition of 11 new dog handlers to enhance community safety.

Five men are in custody and a shotgun has been recovered after a coordinated police operation across north Manchester on Monday (19/5/25).

The arrests followed the theft of a car from Montserrat Road in Bolton on 17 May, which was later spotted by patrol officers driving around north Manchester. The vehicle was abandoned at approximately 1:50pm on Bank Bridge Road, where three suspects fled into nearby undergrowth, with one jumping into the canal.

Police Dog Eddie and his handler tracked down one suspect who was found dripping wet and hiding in bushes. Two additional men were located following further searches. Officers recovered a shotgun and live ammunition from a bush during their search of the area.

A 21-year-old man has been charged with multiple driving offences and possession of a bladed article, and has been remanded into custody. A 20-year-old man remains in custody, while a 17-year-old has been released on bail. Three additional men were arrested yesterday on suspicion of possession of a firearm, theft of motor vehicle, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of class B drugs. All three remain in custody as the investigation continues.

The operation involved the Tactical Dog Unit, Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, Drone Unit, National Police Air Service helicopter, and CID from North Manchester division. Inspector Kelly Paterson said: “We have worked tirelessly since this incident took place, building up a full picture of what happened. We have also taken a dangerous firearm off the street, a gun that could have been used at a later date.”
