Royton man selling ultra rare set of coins for £20,000

A Royton man, Eric Thompson, is selling his ultra-rare collection of 50p, £2, and 10p coins on eBay for £20,000, including complete sets of Olympic Games 50p pieces, Paddington Bear and Beatrix Potter coins, and rare £2 coins.

Royton resident Eric Thompson has listed his decade-spanning coin collection on eBay for £20,000, offering what he calls “a once in a lifetime opportunity” for serious numismatists.

The collection features more than 300 individual coins with no duplicates, including a complete set of Olympic Games 50p pieces that become ultra rare when assembled as a full set. Among the standout pieces is an uncirculated salmon 50p, distinguished by having the lowest mintage of any coin currently in circulation, making it the most sought-after piece among collectors.

Thompson’s hoard encompasses complete sets of Paddington Bear and Beatrix Potter 50p coins, alongside an ultra rare £2 coin collection featuring four Commonwealth Games coins. The £2 collection also includes uncirculated RAF, James Cook and Wedgewood pieces. A full set of uncirculated 10p coins bearing the alphabet completes the offering, which Thompson describes as “an absolute must for collectors or investors.”

The Royton man, who has spent over ten years building this collection, has now decided to part with his carefully curated coins through the online marketplace.
