Proactive investigation by specialist anti-gang unit sees OCG jailed for 30 years

Three members of an organised crime group (OCG) involved in the large-scale supply of cocaine and heroin across the UK have been jailed for a total of 30 years. The group, led by Mohammed Omayr, used encrypted messaging and hidden vehicle compartments to conduct their operations. The investigation, led by specialist police units, uncovered significant cash, drugs, and luxury items during raids in Oldham and Chorlton.

Three men who ran a nationwide cocaine and heroin trafficking ring from Greater Manchester have been jailed for a combined 30 years after detectives cracked their Encrochat network.

Mohammed Omayr, 41, orchestrated the multi-kilo operation from his Chorlton home, directing courier Abdul Bahadir to deliver drugs hidden in a vehicle’s secret compartment while Husnain Ali counted and packaged the cash. The gang’s encrypted messages, exposed when international law enforcement breached Encrochat in 2020, revealed Bahadir used handles ‘simonsays’ and ‘tupacdon’ to coordinate shipments across Britain.

Police seized the operation on 28 July 2020 when they stopped Bahadir’s car on the M61 southbound near Manchester. Officers found the concealed compartment stuffed with cocaine, mixing agents and digital scales. Subsequent raids uncovered £157,000 cash at Bahadir’s Oldham home alongside vacuum-packing equipment and designer clothing, while Omayr’s Chorlton property yielded £25,000 cash, luxury watches and a £200,000 Lamborghini Urus.

At Manchester Crown Court on Monday, Omayr received 16 years and four months for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs, while Bahadir was jailed for 11 years and six months and Ali for eight years and 11 months after both pleaded guilty. DC Bryan Deighton of Greater Manchester Police’s Bury Challenger Team said the gang’s “greed” funded their “flashy cars and designer clothes” at the expense of vulnerable drug users, warning that encrypted phone users remain under investigation “regardless of time passed.”
