Police probe follows 'frightening' Sholver robbery
Police are investigating a robbery in Sholver where a man in his 70s was attacked and had his car stolen. The suspect, hiding in bushes, tackled the victim, stole his keys, and drove off, striking the victim with the car. The car was later found abandoned, and the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made, and police are appealing for information or footage.
Sholver, Oldham - A man in his 70s is recovering in hospital after a masked assailant sprang from bushes, wrestled him to the ground and sped away in his car, knocking the pensioner down as he fled.
The ambush happened at about 5.25 pm on Saturday 14 December on Stevenson Drive, where the victim had just parked. Police say the thief snatched the keys, reversed into the owner, then abandoned the vehicle minutes later a short distance away. The pensioner’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.
No-one has been arrested. Detective Inspector Andrew Day, leading the inquiry for Greater Manchester Police’s Oldham district, described the robbery as “a frightening and disturbing incident” and vowed to track down the culprit. “My team and I are determined to trace those responsible and are following up a number of lines of enquiry,” he said. “We are appealing for any information that could assist with enquiries or any CCTV or mobile footage you may have - please get in touch with us.”
