Police chase down teenager in the street before finding huge £20,000 haul

Police in Derker, Oldham, arrested a 17-year-old male after a chase, leading to the discovery of £20,000 worth of suspected cannabis, multiple phones, and over £1,000 in unaccounted cash. Two additional suspects, a 38-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, were also arrested at the suspect's residence. All three were released on bail. The arrests are part of Greater Manchester Police's Operation Vulcan, which has led to over 110 arrests and significant drug and cash seizures since March.

A teenager on a bicycle sparked a foot-chase that ended with police seizing £20,000 worth of suspected cannabis, more than £1,000 in unexplained cash and a stash of phones in Derker on Friday afternoon.

Officers spotted the 17-year-old while carrying out a routine patrol around 1.50 pm on July 18. After a short pursuit they detained the youth and found wraps of brown and white powder, leading to his arrest on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

A search of the boy’s home uncovered what detectives believe is a large quantity of class-B cannabis, estimated to have a street value of about £20,000. A 38-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were arrested at the address on suspicion of drugs offences. Officers also removed multiple phones, the cash and drug-related paraphernalia from the property.

All three suspects have been released on bail while enquiries continue. Their arrests bring the total linked to Greater Manchester Police’s Operation Vulcan, launched in March, to more than 110. The force says the crackdown has already taken tens of thousands of pounds of controlled substances and around £30,000 in suspected criminal cash off the streets of Cheetham Hill and Piccadilly Gardens.

Inspector Dan Cullum, from GMP’s Vulcan team, said: “This latest success shows the effectiveness of proactive policing efforts in Derker, and the wider work that can unravel from a single search. With 110 arrests already in the area since March, Vulcan’s crime-smashing operation and work with partners is continuing to make Derker a safer area, with criminals never allowed to rest and those in genuine need being supported wherever possible. We would encourage anyone with any issues in the area to get in touch with us - we are dedicated to taking criminality out of the area and supporting your community however we can.”
