Teenager Stabbed After Getting Off Tram in Manchester

A teenage boy was stabbed shortly after 4:30pm on Thursday 13 February in the Crescent Road area of Manchester, according to police.

Investigators say the victim had just stepped off a tram at Abraham Moss when he was confronted by a group of youths dressed in black and wearing balaclavas. Following what detectives describe as “an altercation,” the boy was stabbed.

Emergency services treated the teenager at the scene before taking him to hospital. Medical staff say his wounds are not life-threatening or life-altering.

No arrests have been made, but officers from the North Manchester Criminal Investigation Department are carrying out “extensive enquiries” to identify those responsible.

Detective Constable Joe Adair appealed for witnesses: “We know that news of an incident of this nature will be concerning, especially owing to the ages of those involved,” he said. “Extensive work is ongoing to identify and locate suspects, and we are working with a range of specialist partners to ensure the victim is safeguarded.”

Additional patrols have been deployed around Crescent Road to reassure residents and commuters, while youth services and charities across Greater Manchester are joining police in preventative work aimed at tackling knife crime and youth violence.
