Woman in 70s assaulted in Middleton as police hunt knife-wielding suspect

A woman in her 70s was assaulted on Crow Hill South in Middleton at 11:20am Thursday, with police believing the attacker was armed with a knife. The victim escaped serious physical injury but has been left severely shaken by the unprovoked attack.

Emergency services responded to the incident, and since the initial report, investigators have conducted extensive enquiries throughout the area, interviewing residents and multiple witnesses. Officers are reviewing hundreds of hours of CCTV footage, with additional resources deployed to establish a detailed timeline of events and track the suspect’s movements following the assault.

Greater Manchester Police have released video footage of a man they believe may have information crucial to their investigation. While the man’s face is not visible in the footage, detectives are hoping someone might recognize his clothing or build.

“We do believe this to be an unprovoked attack which has left a woman incredibly shaken,” said Detective Inspector Kimberley Hines from the Rochdale district. “We have a team of detectives and police officers working around the clock to identify who is responsible for this attack.”
