Pensioner paedophile sexually abused young girl in sickening crimes

A 77-year-old man, Tony Drewitt, has been jailed for 12 months after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a teenage girl over a year-long period. The abuse occurred in the Oldham area, and Drewitt was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for five years and given an indefinite restraining order against the victim.

Tony Drewitt, 77, will spend the next year behind bars after admitting he groomed and sexually abused a girl who was just 13 when they first met.

Manchester Crown Court heard that the pensioner, of Hazon Way, Epsom, Surrey, carried out the year-long abuse while the victim was 14. Some of the offences took place in the Oldham area, Greater Manchester Police said. Drewitt pleaded guilty in January to two counts of sexual activity with a child and was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for five years. He was also given an indefinite restraining order banning contact with the victim.

Detective Sergeant Andy Barrett of GMP’s Oldham Complex Safeguarding Hub praised the courage of the girl and her family. “Drewitt engaged in a prolonged period of grooming a young girl, who should have been free to enjoy her childhood. Instead, she was abused by a man who denied her of her youth,” Barrett said, urging other victims to come forward. “We will listen to you and we will investigate.”
