Park set to get a proper LIFt

Oldham Council has allocated £25,552.80 from its Local Improvement Fund (LIF) to enhance Dogford Park in Royton, including the installation of free outdoor gym equipment and a new trim trail, based on resident feedback.

Dogford Park in Royton will transform into an outdoor fitness hub next year after Oldham Council approved £25,552.80 in funding for new exercise equipment.

The popular green space will receive a complete trim trail and three pieces of free-to-use gym equipment—a spin bike, chest press/seated row station and rowing machine—following requests from local residents and park users. Construction teams will begin work in the new year, though council officials promise to minimize disruption during the installation process.

“The council knows how important our parks and greenspaces are to residents, which is why we are always looking to improve them if we can,” said Councillor Chris Goodwin, who oversees the Don’t Trash Oldham Cabinet portfolio for parks and greenspaces. “Parks users and residents told us they wanted to see Dogford Park improved. We’ve listened to them and are now delivering.”

The funding comes from the council’s Local Improvement Fund (LIF), established in 2019 to support neighborhood improvement projects across the borough. The outdoor gym equipment will be accessible to residents of all ages once installation is complete.
