Pair sentenced after machete and firearm were used in Chadderton fight

Two men, McCauley Brooker and Stephen Wilson, have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in a violent altercation in Chadderton, where a machete and firearm were used. Wilson received 12 years and four months, while Brooker was sentenced to seven years and a month. The incident occurred on Busk Road in May 2024, with both men sustaining serious injuries.

Two men who attacked each other with a machete and a gun on a Chadderton street have been jailed for a combined total of more than 19 years.

McCauley Brooker, 24, of Eccles, and Stephen Wilson, 29, from Salford, were sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to their roles in the violent clash that erupted on Busk Road on the evening of May 22, 2024.

Wilson received 12 years and four months for Section 18 Assault and possession of a bladed article, while Brooker was handed seven years and one month for Section 18 Assault and firearms offences. The confrontation left both men seriously injured—Wilson with gunshot wounds to his arms and Brooker with stab wounds—after Wilson wielded a machete and Brooker fired a gun during the fight.

Detectives pieced together the sequence of events through CCTV footage, which showed the two men attacking each other after Brooker was chased from Chancery Street onto Busk Road. Despite Brooker’s claim of self-defence, the court rejected his argument after evidence revealed he was carrying a viable firearm. Between three and six shots were discharged during the struggle. Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team later executed warrants in Abergele, North Wales, as part of the investigation.

Detective Sergeant Smeeton said: “Today’s results show that despite the nature of the incident, those involved had access to and chose to inflict serious injury and violence on a street in Oldham. This obviously carried a heightened threat, and it is a miracle no innocent members of the public were caught in the crossfire and that Brooker and Wilson survived the attack with the injuries they sustained.”
