Operation Venture patrols take the streets in north Manchester

Operation Venture conducted proactive patrols in north Manchester over three nights, addressing serious violence and making six arrests, including for drug possession, robbery, and burglary. The initiative, focused on knife crime and community safety, has been active since 2022 and collaborates with the Violence Reduction Unit to deter youth from criminality.

Operation Venture officers conducted intensive patrols across north Manchester last week, making six arrests over three nights in areas hardest hit by recent violence.

The specialized unit responded to nine incidents between Thursday and Saturday, achieving four positive outcomes. A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, dangerous driving, failing to stop and motoring offences.

Two 16-year-old males were separately arrested on suspicion of robbery following incidents in the city centre. The operation concluded with three men in their 20s detained on suspicion of burglary after reports of thieves on Bradford Road. All three were found carrying angle grinders.

Inspector Jon Ezard emphasized the unit’s commitment to removing knives from the streets. “Our team cover the entire of Greater Manchester and we are there to ensure any areas of concern benefit from our dedicated and targeted skills in tackling knife crime,” he said. “Knives have no place on our streets, and we want communities to feel safe where they live, where their children go to school and where they work.”

The Violence Reduction Unit, which includes Operation Venture, has focused recent efforts on north Manchester following a surge in violent incidents. Officers work alongside neighbourhood teams to provide additional patrols and community reassurance while conducting test purchasing operations across Greater Manchester to prevent knife sales to minors.
