Oldham snap up St Helens star

Oldham has signed versatile St Helens player Ben Davies on a deal until 2026, providing a boost to their squad amid injuries. Davies, a 25-year-old centre or second row, is eager to contribute to Oldham's push for success in the Championship and 1895 Cup.

Oldham have pulled off a major coup by securing the signature of St Helens utility back Ben Davies on a deal that runs through the end of the 2026 season.

The 25-year-old, who can operate at centre or in the second row, crossed for 11 tries in 41 Super League appearances for Saints after breaking into their first team five years ago. He becomes available immediately and could make his Roughyeds bow in Sunday’s Championship fixture at Doncaster.

Davies’ arrival lands at a critical moment for Sean Long’s side, who sit fourth in the table and are two games away from a historic Wembley appearance in the 1895 Cup. A spate of injuries over the past fortnight - including a bruising draw at Widnes and last week’s defeat to Bradford - has left the squad stretched heading into a run of fixtures that also features Toulouse at home and a semi-final against Featherstone.

“I can’t wait to get involved, rip in with the lads, get some game time and have fun doing it,” Davies told Roughyeds TV. “I’m fit, firing and ready to go. I’ll get butterflies pulling on that Oldham shirt and playing for a great club with a real history.”

Long believes the newcomer’s versatility and hunger can provide the spark his side needs. “Ben is a good player who is still only young but has played a lot of Super League,” the head coach said. “We’re a bit short with injuries in the outside backs and back row so Ben can play both, which is great for us. I’ve told him that if he plays well for us then he will keep his spot.”
