Oldham police seize £250k worth of stolen vehicle parts after identifying them for sale on buy/sell sites

Oldham police seized £250,000 worth of stolen vehicle parts after identifying them for sale on buy/sell sites, leading to the arrest of three men. The operation was based on intelligence gathered by the Stolen Vehicle Examination Unit (SVEU) monitoring online marketplaces.

Oldham police seized £250,000 worth of suspected stolen vehicle parts during a dawn raid on a garage unit at an industrial park this week, leading to the arrest of three men.

Officers from the Neighbourhood Crime Team recovered engines, gearboxes, doors and suspension parts believed to have been stripped from stolen vehicles including Toyota Hilux, Mercedes E class, Land Rover Discovery, Volkswagen Arteon, Honda Civic and Vauxhall Corsa models. The men aged 32, 35 and 40 were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

The warrant followed intelligence gathered by Greater Manchester Police’s Stolen Vehicle Examination Unit, which monitors online marketplace sites where people buy and sell goods. The unit works with the Force Intelligence Bureau to identify suspects and locations before passing information to neighbourhood crime teams for action.

Detective Sergeant Jessica Parkin from Oldham’s Neighbourhood Crime Team said: “The warrants executed today have led to the recovery of numerous vehicle parts and are just one example of the proactive and positive work we do to keep criminal activity off our streets. But our work doesn’t stop here, and we will continue to tackle this type of crime. I would encourage anyone who may have information or suspect that someone in their area is involved with vehicle theft to get in touch with police. Intelligence we receive from the public is always beneficial to our investigations.”

Anyone with information about vehicle thefts or suspicious activity should call 101, or 999 in an emergency. To remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
