Oldham firms become next-door neighbours thanks to Mahdlo link

Two Oldham businesses, James Scott Accountants and Breakey Nuttall commercial property agents, have become next-door neighbours at Salmon Fields Business Village in Royton after meeting through their shared patronage of Mahdlo Youth Zone and participating in its Three Peaks of Saddleworth Challenge. The connection led to James Scott relocating next to Breakey Nuttall, with both firms continuing their support for Mahdlo, including Matthew Taylor of James Scott becoming Mahdlo's new Treasurer.

Accountancy firm James Scott has relocated to Salmon Fields Business Village in Royton, becoming next-door neighbours with commercial property agents Breakey Nuttall after a chance conversation during a charity hike across Saddleworth Moor.

The businesses, both patrons of Mahdlo Youth Zone, discovered the opportunity while participating in last summer’s Three Peaks of Saddleworth Challenge. During the 15-mile trek, Breakey Nuttall Managing Partner Joanne Nuttall mentioned to James Scott Partner Matthew Taylor that the adjacent premises, then known as UML House, would soon be available.

“We’ve always entered a team in the three peaks challenge, as do Breakey Nuttall,” Taylor explained. “Last year was no exception, and it was whilst walking over Indian’s Head with Joanne, that we got onto the subject of property. She told us that UML House would be coming onto the market and the rest, as they say, is history.”

Nuttall expressed enthusiasm about the new arrangement: “We are delighted that Matthew, Brendan and the team at James Scott Accountants have become our neighbours. Like us, they support various charities and organisations across Oldham, but it was thanks to Mahdlo who introduced us, some years ago, when we became fellow patrons.”

The connection deepens as Taylor assumes the role of Treasurer at Mahdlo Youth Zone, which has supported young people across Oldham since 2012. The charity raised £1.6 million last year and aims for £1.9 million this year to reach approximately 4,000 young people through activities at its centre and borough-wide sessions.

This year’s Three Peaks of Saddleworth Challenge, covering local landmarks Pots and Pans, Indian’s Head and Wharmton Hill, takes place on Saturday, July 5.
