Oldham Council road closures around Boundary Park for Latics matches

Road closures around Boundary Park during Latics matches have left residents frustrated over lack of notice and concerns about access for non-drivers.

Oldham Council has ordered road closures around Boundary Park during Oldham Athletic matches after 'public safety concerns' were raised by police. The closures affect Furtherwood Road and neighbouring streets including Prestbury Drive, Colville Road, Kenwood Road, Boundary Park Road, Boundary Drive and Johnstone Close. They'll be in place for two periods on matchdays-from 2pm to 3pm and again from 4.30pm to 5.30pm-with residents allowed access if they show proof of address or a valid parking...

The council says it's acting under the Town Police Clauses Act to protect public safety, particularly around peak times before and after games. But residents have hit out at the lack of prior notice, with one saying the closures began weeks ago without warning. Several people have raised concerns about how non-drivers will manage, especially older and disabled residents who rely on taxis or lifts from friends and family.

The closures began on March 24 and will affect one more home fixture this season-against Accrington on May 2. The council has promised a wider consultation ahead of next season, acknowledging that similar systems are already in place around other major venues like Headingley, Etihad and Old Trafford. For now, residents are being told to take extra care when travelling to and from their homes during closure periods as more people will be walking on the roads.
