Oldham bolster squad with Lannon capture

Oldham has signed forward Ryan Lannon from Widnes Vikings on a deal until the end of the season to strengthen their injury-hit squad. Lannon, who has Super League experience, is available immediately and expressed excitement about joining the ambitious club.

Oldham have moved quickly to shore up their injury-ravaged squad by bringing in 29-year-old forward Ryan Lannon from Widnes Vikings on a deal until the end of the season.

Lannon, who trained with his new teammates for the first time on Monday, is available for immediate selection and could make his debut in Sunday’s Betfred Championship fixture at Doncaster. The experienced forward counts Super League stints with Salford and Hull KR among his previous clubs and previously enjoyed a loan spell with the Roughyeds in 2018.

“I’m really excited and also very grateful to Longy for taking me on at this ambitious club,” Lannon told Roughyeds TV. “They have built a very competitive team here and I just want to be part of it. I see myself as a good ball carrier and will work hard for my team-mates so I think I will fit right in with a good bunch of lads who like to work hard for each other. I have played quite a lot of Super League and in finals so hopefully we will be involved in the big games here at the end of the season.”

Head coach Sean Long welcomed the reinforcement after watching his depleted squad lose at home to Bradford on Friday and draw with Widnes on Good Friday. “I am delighted to have Ryan at the club and he brings experience and aggression to our side,” Long said. “He will be a good addition to the squad with us having quite a few injuries at the moment and we are pleased to get the deal done.”
