Manchester Police Arrest Man Over Metrolink Gas Incidents
Manchester, England - Police have arrested a man in his 30s after passengers reported feeling unwell on trams running between Bury and Victoria.
Officers detained the suspect on suspicion of possessing a noxious substance with intent to cause injury. Several travellers had contacted police in recent days, complaining of dizziness and discomfort after apparently inhaling fumes on board.
No-one needed hospital treatment, Greater Manchester Police said, and they do not believe the public faces any ongoing risk.
Detective Chief Inspector Paddy Connell urged witnesses to come forward:
> “We know reports like this can worry commuters. A man is now in custody and our investigation is under way to establish exactly what happened.
>
> “If you think you saw anything unusual on those services, or experienced similar symptoms, please call 101 or use the force’s Live Chat. You can also speak to Crimestoppers anonymously.”
Metrolink services on the affected line are operating normally. Officers have stepped up patrols at stops and on trams while inquiries continue.
