Officers appeal for information and footage following a robbery in Oldham

Police are appealing for information and footage after a robbery in Oldham on December 14, 2024, where a man in his 70s was attacked and had his car stolen. The suspect, who was hiding in bushes, tackled the victim, stole his car keys, and struck him with the car before fleeing. The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The car was later found abandoned, and no arrests have been made.

Elderly Man Hospitalized After Carjacker Hid in Bushes, Ran Him Over With His Own Vehicle

A man in his 70s remains hospitalized after a carjacker ambushed him on Stevenson Drive in Oldham around 5:25pm Saturday, stealing his vehicle and striking him as he sped away.

The suspect had concealed himself in nearby bushes before tackling the elderly victim to the ground and snatching his car keys. After climbing into the vehicle, the thief accelerated directly into the pensioner, leaving him injured in the roadway before abandoning the car minutes later.

“This is a frightening and disturbing incident where an elderly gentleman walking to his house from his car, was subjected to a pre-meditated attack, with the suspect in some bushes waiting for him,” said Detective Inspector Andrew Day from Oldham district. “My team and I are determined to trace those responsible and are following up a number of lines of enquiry.”

Police report the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing, though he continues receiving treatment. No arrests have been made.
