New NHS ovarian cancer awareness roadshow comes to Oldham

The NHS, in collaboration with the Dianne Oxberry Trust and Target Ovarian Cancer, is launching an ovarian cancer awareness roadshow in Greater Manchester, including Oldham, during March 2025 for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. The mobile unit features images of Dianne Oxberry and survivors to raise awareness of symptoms and encourage early GP visits.

A mobile cancer awareness unit bearing the image of late BBC weather presenter Dianne Oxberry rolled into Oldham this week as part of a Greater Manchester-wide campaign to tackle ovarian cancer.

The distinctive van, which also features ovarian cancer survivors Dr Charlotte Badescu and Hilary Morrison alongside NHS consultant gynaecologist Dr Nadia Ali-Ross, stopped at Asda Shaw on Monday before moving to Tesco on Featherstall Road North on Tuesday and Morrisons in Chadderton on Wednesday. The unit operates daily from 10am to 6pm.

The roadshow, launched by the NHS Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance with the Dianne Oxberry Trust and Target Ovarian Cancer, aims to educate women and people with ovaries about key symptoms including persistent bloating, tummy pain, feeling full quickly and increased urination.

Jo Rosenberg, chair of the Dianne Oxberry Trust, said: “We think Dianne would be extremely proud that we are using her legacy to help in this mission to save more lives so that other families are not devastated like hers was by ovarian cancer.”

Dr Badescu, a 34-year-old GP who survived ovarian cancer, urged people not to ignore symptoms. “We know when ovarian cancer is found early the chances of people having successful treatment, like I did, are so much better,” she said.

The campaign reveals that only one in five women recognise persistent bloating as a potential symptom. The van will visit all 10 Greater Manchester boroughs throughout March, which is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
