New Bins will include QR codes to make recycling easier

Oldham Council is introducing QR codes on household bins to make recycling easier as part of a new order with a bin supplier.

Oldham Council is rolling out smart technology across household bins throughout the borough with the introduction of QR codes on every new waste container.

The council announced the initiative as part of an upcoming order with their new bin supplier, which will see the distinctive square codes permanently affixed to the front of each bin. The QR codes are designed to provide residents with instant access to waste collection information and recycling guidance through their smartphones.

Council officials have not yet specified what information the QR codes will contain or when the first of the new-look bins will appear on residential streets. The move represents the latest step in the borough’s efforts to modernize waste management services and improve recycling rates.
