Ashby House Day Care Centre Opens in Royton, Expanding Age UK Oldham’s Support for Vulnerable Adults
A new day care centre for older people officially opened its doors in Royton this week, marking a significant expansion of Age UK Oldham’s services across the borough. Jayne Ratcliffe, Oldham Council’s Head of Adult Social Care, cut the ribbon at Ashby House on Highlands, welcoming the facility as a vital resource for the community.
The launch represents months of planning and preparation by the charity, which already operates the successful Bluebells Day Centre in Moorside. Chief Executive Yvonne Lee hosted the opening ceremony alongside local health and care professionals, with several regular attendees present to witness the occasion.
“This new centre provides a homely feel, which is welcoming and will support vulnerable adults from across the community,” Ratcliffe said during the opening. “Day care services like this give great social benefits to those who attend and help people and their families to connect, whilst also combating loneliness.”
Ashby House, set in a converted residential bungalow, specifically caters to clients living with various forms of dementia. Care Services Manager Sue Fletcher praised her team’s efforts in creating what she described as a “home from home” environment, noting that early feedback from families has been overwhelmingly positive.
The centre joins Bluebells Day Centre, which opened in 2018, in providing personalised care that prioritises individual dignity while offering respite for families and caregivers. Both facilities offer meaningful activities and professional support in a welcoming setting.
Those interested in accessing the service can contact Ashby House Day Care Centre Manager Kryshia Winkler on 0161 678 1598.
