Murder investigation launched and arrest made following death of man in Chadderton
A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a 50-year-old man in Chadderton, Oldham, after an altercation between two drivers near the Elk Mill roundabout. The suspect, a 32-year-old man, handed himself in and was arrested. Police are appealing for witnesses and any dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage.
Man Arrested After Fatal Confrontation Near Elk Mill Roundabout
A 32-year-old man is in custody on suspicion of murder after a 50-year-old man died following a vehicular confrontation in Chadderton, Oldham, Wednesday evening.
Emergency services responded to reports of a fight on Broadway near the Elk Mill roundabout around 6:40 pm. According to investigators, two drivers had engaged in an altercation before one returned to his vehicle and struck the other man. Despite immediate medical attention, the victim died at the scene.
The suspect fled the area but later surrendered to police. Specialist officers are now supporting the victim’s family as the Major Incident Team leads the investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector David Moores appealed for witnesses and footage: “While an arrest has now been secured and an investigation is well underway, I would urge anyone with any information regarding last night’s incident to please get in touch with us. A man tragically lost his life and we are supporting his family as we continue our work. Ultimately, we want to get them the answers that they deserve as we fully establish all the circumstances which led to their loved one losing his life.”
