Multi-agency operation in Bolton sees 94 nitrous canisters and snap bags of cannabis recovered
A multi-agency operation in Bolton led to the seizure of 94 nitrous oxide canisters, cannabis in snap bags, illegal tobacco, and illicit vapes. The operation involved local police, trading standards, immigration officials, and the fire service, targeting six premises on Derby Road. The action was taken in response to community reports of illegal activities, including anti-social behaviour and drug-related crime. Two vehicles were also seized, and further operations are planned to clamp down on suspected criminality.
Bolton police seized 97 nitrous oxide canisters alongside cannabis, illegal tobacco and non-compliant vapes during a multi-agency raid on Derby Road businesses Monday.
Officers from Bolton’s Neighbourhood Team joined trading standards, immigration officials and fire crews to search six premises including restaurants, shops and takeaways. Specialist sniffer dogs uncovered the haul from two vehicles, leading to their seizure under new powers that made nitrous oxide a Class C drug in 2023.
The operation targeted reports of anti-social behaviour and suspected drug activity in the area. Immigration officers verified worker documentation while firefighters inspected building safety compliance. Police found cannabis packaged in snap bags and vaping products that failed UK standards.
Sergeant Oliver Cooper said community intelligence drives enforcement efforts. “When people let us know about suspected illegal activity in their area, we investigate it to the best of our ability and utilise all the resources we have available,” Cooper stated. “Illegal business practices and illegal behaviour will be dealt with accordingly and with the safety and security of local people at the forefront of any decisions.”
Authorities pledged continued patrols and inspections as they work to dismantle suspected criminal networks operating along Derby Road. Residents can report information through neighbourhood policing teams, PACT meetings, gmp.police.uk or anonymously via Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
