Young Fighters Strike Silver and Gold at World Open

Three junior fighters from Max Force Muay Thai have returned from the amateur-rules Muay Thai World Open in Great Yarmouth with two silver medals and one gold.

Connor MacLennan, 12, from Lees, took second place in the 44.2-47.1 kg division for 12- to 13-year-olds, while team-mate Khyla-Mae Johnston, 10, also from Lees, earned silver in the 41.1-44.0 kg class for 10- to 11-year-olds. Eight-year-old Tyler Taylor, from Sholver, went one step further, claiming the 8-9 years +38 kg title and becoming world amateur champion.

Club coaches Bradley Tunnacliffe and Shaunna, who accompanied the trio to the event held at Vauxhall Caravan Park, praised their performances. “We are so proud of all three students for not only getting in the ring but performing to the highest standard,” they said. “They represented themselves and the club brilliantly.”

The tournament drew some of the UK’s strongest junior competitors, along with international opposition. A 15-strong group of parents and friends travelled to Great Yarmouth to support the Max Force contingent.

Max Force Muay Thai has recently moved to new premises in New Hey and offers sessions for all ages and abilities.
