Man who unlawfully gained entry in student accommodation before stealing cash jailed as officers give out burglary prevention advice

Boris Danso, a 31-year-old man from Jevington Walk, was jailed for three years after being found guilty of burgling student accommodation in Manchester. He stole £1,000 in cash from two rooms and attempted to re-enter the premises before being arrested. The investigation involved CCTV footage, and Danso was identified and arrested by police. Detective Constable Lauren Roach emphasized the importance of community vigilance and provided burglary prevention advice.

Boris Danso, 32, of Jevington Walk, was sentenced to three years in prison after a Liverpool Crown Court jury convicted him following a three-day trial.

The burglaries began to unravel when a student reported their room had been broken into, prompting university security to call police. Detectives reviewing CCTV footage spotted Danso testing door handles at multiple accommodation blocks in what investigators described as reconnaissance. After finding the buildings secure, he left and returned hours later, successfully entering one block where he stole £1,000 cash from two rooms.

Security staff thwarted Danso’s third attempt when they noticed suspicious activity around midnight and cancelled the access card he was using. Police arrested him on August 6, 2024, after an officer spotted him walking near the university while returning from collecting evidence.

Detective Constable Lauren Roach of Greater Manchester Police’s Manchester Central Neighbourhood team said: “It was clear Danso planned and executed these burglaries at student accommodation in Manchester, he used false identification and authority to enter into the university. CCTV enquiries quickly led to the identification of Boris Danso as a suspect and it was a great arrest as we managed to spot him walking on the street and swiftly arrested him.”

“Danso knowingly stole items that didn’t belong to him, and for the victims, this was a frightening ordeal when they learned that Danso had been in their accommodation. I hope it provides some comfort for the victims, and those in the accommodation to know that Danso was the man responsible for this and that he is now safely behind bars.”
