A 57-year-old man died after being struck by a car on the M60 in the early hours of Sunday morning, prompting a 12-hour closure of the motorway while investigators worked the scene.

The fatal collision occurred shortly before 4am on the anti-clockwise carriageway between junctions 23 and 21. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the location of the incident.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the vehicle struck the man at junction 22 of the M60 at approximately 3:56am. “The collision caused significant injuries and the pedestrian, a 57-year-old man, sadly passed away at the scene,” a force spokesperson said.

Authorities shut down both directions of the motorway as police and paramedics responded to the incident. The extensive closure remained in place throughout the day while investigators conducted their work, finally lifting at around 4:20pm according to National Highways.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit has launched an appeal for witnesses and anyone who might have captured footage of the incident. “They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision,” police stated.
