Man jailed for seven years after stabbing his victim six times
Aaron Grant was sentenced to seven years in prison and given a lifelong restraining order for stabbing a victim six times during a New Year's Eve altercation. The attack occurred after Grant became aggressive, made unwanted advances, and escalated to violence when challenged. The victim, unarmed, suffered multiple stab wounds and fled to the hospital while Grant taunted him. Grant was arrested after admitting to the stabbing during a 999 call.
Aaron Grant will spend seven years behind bars for a New Year’s Eve knife attack that left a celebrant with six stab wounds and fighting for his life.
Manchester Crown Court heard how the 42-year-old turned a festive gathering into a bloodbath on 30 December 2023, plunging a knife repeatedly into an unarmed man who had dared to challenge his aggressive behaviour. The victim, who had been drinking with friends at a city centre address, confronted Grant after he began boasting and making unwanted advances toward a woman in the group.
“Look at you now,” Grant taunted as he stood over his bleeding victim, who had only realised he’d been stabbed when he saw blood pouring from his body. The injured man fled the property and ran toward Manchester Royal Infirmary while Grant pursued him down the street, knife still in hand, continuing his threats. Hospital staff rushed the victim into emergency treatment for wounds to his back, flank, head and hand.
Police arrested Grant later that day after he returned to the scene. During a 999 call reporting his whereabouts, Grant could be heard admitting to the stabbing in the background. Detective Constable Muller told the court: “This was a callous attack on an innocent and unarmed man who was simply trying to enjoy his evening. He did not expect to be stabbed by a dangerous offender within his own home.”
Grant claimed he acted in “excessive self-defence” because the victim was larger than him. When pressed during police interview about when his actions became excessive, he replied: “When I got the knife.” Alongside his prison sentence, Grant received a lifelong restraining order protecting the victim from future contact.
