Man jailed for more than seven years for non-recent child sex offences

Andrew Shore, a 37-year-old man from Gloucestershire, was sentenced to seven years and three months in prison for raping an 11-year-old girl and committing indecent assault in Rochdale in the early 2000s. The victim, now an adult, reported the crimes via Greater Manchester Police's online system, leading to Shore's conviction. The case highlights the lasting trauma of sexual abuse and the importance of reporting such crimes, even years later.

Man jailed for raping girl, 11, in early 2000s

A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years and three months in prison for raping and indecently assaulting an 11-year-old girl in Rochdale more than 20 years ago.

Andrew Shore, of Croome Gardens, Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, was found guilty by a unanimous jury at Manchester Crown Square Court on 27 February. The offences were committed in the early 2000s when Shore himself was 16 and in a position of trust over the child.

Passing sentence on Wednesday, the judge also imposed a lifelong restraining order and sex-offender notification requirements.

Detective Constable Russell Clarke said the victim had “waited a long time for justice”.

“Shore betrayed the trust placed in him and forced the victim to relive her ordeal because he refused to accept responsibility,” Clarke said. “During the investigation his story kept changing and he even tried to blame members of the victim’s family.”

Greater Manchester Police urged anyone who has experienced sexual violence to come forward. “It is never too late to report abuse,” Clarke added.
