Bolton man sentenced to seven years for raping sleeping woman after Halloween craft session

A 35-year-old Bolton man who raped a woman while she slept after an afternoon making Halloween decorations has been jailed for seven years. Adam Walton, of Bolton, attacked the victim on 27 October after she had fallen asleep at her home following lunch with friends.

The woman woke to find Walton pinning her down and raping her. When she confronted him, he fled the house. The victim immediately called a friend and her father, who contacted police.

Detectives examining Walton’s phone discovered messages showing he had ordered cocaine and Viagra on the night of the attack. During questioning, he showed no remorse and made excuses for his actions, Greater Manchester Police said.

Walton denied the charge, forcing his victim to relive her ordeal during a trial. He was convicted by a majority jury verdict. Detective Constable Anna Skelton from Bolton CID praised the victim’s courage in helping put “a sexual predator” behind bars.

“Walton forced himself on a woman who was asleep and could not give consent,” Skelton said. “This comes as a reminder to everyone to respect personal boundaries and consent.”
