Man charged with murder and other offences after a 38-year-old man was killed on Essex Street in Rochdale on New Year’s Day
Hassan Suliman, aged 29, has been charged with murder, assault, and weapon possession offences following the fatal stabbing of a 38-year-old man on Essex Street in Rochdale on New Year’s Day. Suliman is remanded in custody and will appear at Wigan Magistrates Court on 9 January 2025. Police are appealing for witnesses and any relevant footage.

Hassan Suliman, 30, of Rothesay Terrace, Rochdale, has been charged with murder following the death of a 38-year-old man who was found with a severe knife wound on Essex Street in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Emergency services discovered the victim at around 2.40am on Wednesday 1 January 2025. Suliman has also been charged with section 47 assault, section 39 assault, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a bladed article. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Wigan Magistrates Court on Thursday 9 January 2025.
Detective Inspector Paul Davies from the Major Incident Team said: “I would like to once again pay tribute to the victim. It is another tragic incident that has seen a member of the community in Rochdale, needlessly lose their life. We have been, and will continue to support his family at this difficult time.”
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward with any information about the incident. “We are still appealing to anyone with any information to continue to call us on 101 quoting incident 715 of 01/01/2025. That includes footage from video doorbells, dashcams, CCTV or mobile phones that could have captured the incident or the moments before or after it,” Davies added.
