Elderly Woman Assaulted in Middleton, 25-Year-Old Man Arrested at Manchester Airport
An elderly woman was assaulted in an unprovoked attack on Crow Hill South, Middleton at 11:20am on Thursday 6 March 2025, according to police reports. The suspect, a man unknown to the victim, was arrested upon landing at Manchester Airport on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The 25-year-old man is currently in police custody awaiting questioning. Officers have conducted extensive investigations including hundreds of hours of CCTV footage review and house-to-house enquiries following the incident.
Police are appealing to the public for dashcam footage that may show the suspect’s movements around the time of the assault. Investigators believe the man walked along Mainway between 10:57am and 11:01am, then traveled to Manor Road before returning to Mainway at 11:18am after the attack.
Detective Inspector Kimberley Hines from the Rochdale district stated: “We do believe this to be an unprovoked attack which has left a woman incredibly shaken. We know that this incident caused concern for our communities, but I hope that news of this arrest will provide a small measure of comfort to those who have been affected by this. Our officers remain in the area to conduct further enquiries and offer reassurance, and we are continuing to appeal to the public to assist with our investigation, particularly if you have any dash cam footage from the day, it could be crucial to our investigation.”
