Man and woman arrested after baby is found dead at Chadderton property
A man and woman were arrested after a five-week-old baby girl was found dead at a property in Chadderton. Emergency services were called but the baby was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem is pending, and the investigation is ongoing.
A five-week-old baby girl died Sunday afternoon at a Nelson Way property in Chadderton, prompting the arrest of a 41-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman on suspicion of child neglect.
Emergency services raced to the scene at 12:56 pm after receiving a welfare report about the infant. Paramedics fought to save her life, but she was pronounced dead at the property.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed both suspects remain in custody while detectives pursue what they describe as “several lines of enquiry.” A post-mortem examination is scheduled for later this week.
“The death of a baby is devastating, and understandably, news of police investigating this tragedy will send shockwaves through the community,” a GMP spokesperson stated Monday. The force urged residents to avoid speculation and asked anyone with information to contact police on 101 or via the GMP website, quoting log 1342 of 9 February.
