New Community Choir Launches in Chadderton

A new community choir is launching in Oldham next week, bringing the total number of Local Vocals groups across Lancashire and Greater Manchester to 20. The choir, which meets every Tuesday from 7:30pm to 9:00pm at the Crossley Centre in Chadderton, welcomes anyone over 16 with no auditions or musical experience required.

Founded in 2021 by LIPA graduate Laura Bennett-Gornall, Local Vocals has raised over £40,000 for local charities while bringing together hundreds of singers across the region. The new Oldham choir will be led by choir leader Phil, who will guide members through uplifting songs arranged in four-part harmony.

“We’re inviting people to experience the joy of singing and meeting new people in a fun and relaxed atmosphere,” the organization states. Members will have opportunities to perform at festivals, stadiums, cathedrals and community events, with repertoire spanning Oasis to Adele, Take That to Queen, and Stevie Wonder to Justin Timberlake.

The choir emphasizes both personal wellbeing and community impact. Members can participate in upcoming performances while contributing to charitable causes. Those interested can book a free taster session through the Local Vocals website.
