Oldham's winter is packed with free events, the Coliseum is finally set to reopen, and £80,000 is being spent on fixing up local spaces.

Oldham Council has locked in a calendar of free events stretching from this autumn through next winter, guaranteeing residents a run of no-cost outings while household budgets stay tight.

The Coliseum building, dark since the theatre company left, will finally reopen its doors in 2026, though the council has not yet said who will run it or what will be performed inside.

Royton's best-used park is in line for a facelift after the town hall found extra money, and three other well-worn community sites will share £80,000 of repair work before winter bites.

Tennis players returned to freshly resurfaced courts in July thanks to a partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association, one of the few sports projects completed in time for this summer.

A women-only gym has opened inside Chadderton Wellbeing Centre, giving a private workout space for residents who asked for it, while the Oldham Gift Card will launch in May as a prepaid Mastercard accepted by both chain stores and independents.
