Latics draw at Pete Wild's Fleetwood

Oldham Athletic (Latics) drew 1-1 away against Fleetwood Town in an EFL League 2 match. Fleetwood took an early lead through Ched Evans, but Oldham dominated much of the game and equalized just before halftime through Reagan Ogle. Oldham had multiple goals disallowed and hit the post, while Fleetwood threatened late. Manager Mickey Mellon expressed mixed feelings, praising the performance but acknowledging poor game management.

Oldham Athletic battled to a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town’s Highbury Stadium on Saturday, dominating proceedings after falling behind to an early Ched Evans strike that silenced nearly 1,200 traveling supporters.

The visitors seized control of midfield through Ryan Woods, Tom Conlon and Josh Hawkes, while strikers Joe Quigley and Mike Fondop constantly troubled the home defense. Despite creating numerous chances, Latics saw two Fondop efforts ruled out - first for handball after Hawkes’ shot was tipped onto the bar, then for offside following Quigley’s flick-on.

Their persistence paid off just before halftime when Reagan Ogle’s deflected effort from the edge of the box found the net after Hawkes’ initial shot was blocked from a corner.

The second half followed a similar pattern as Mickey Mellon’s side continued to press. Fondop had a third goal disallowed for an alleged push, while substitute Kian Harratt struck the post and Quigley twice went close. Fleetwood’s only real threats came late on when Matt Hudson denied Graydon and Davies somehow missed the target from the rebound.

“We could have won, we could have lost because of poor game management,” Mellon reflected afterward. “After Fleetwood scored, we were the ones in the ascendency. There were enough opportunities for us away from home to say we should have won.”

Latics face Manchester City U21 in the Vertu Trophy on Tuesday before returning to League Two action against Gillingham next weekend.
