It's a bitter-sweet experience for Uppermill FC as they unveil newly-repaired dugouts
Uppermill FC unveiled their newly-repaired dugouts after they were vandalized, leaving the club £450 out of pocket. The club expressed frustration over the damage, which included foul language replacing their logos, and highlighted the importance of community support for local sports.
Uppermill FC has reopened its freshly repaired dugouts at Churchill Playing Fields after vandals scrawled obscenities across the benches and ripped out club branding.
Club chief executive Steve Southern said offenders struck soon after volunteers spent extra funds adding the Uppermill crest and colours to both the home and away shelters.
“We wanted our teams to feel pride and visiting sides to feel welcome,” he explained. “Instead, the damage projected the image that Saddleworth has no standards.”
Despite social-media pleas and a police appeal, no suspects were identified. The clean-up and repaint cost the volunteer-run club £450—money Southern noted could have supported youth coaching sessions.
Councillor Helen Bishop, who helped secure materials for the repairs, praised local sports groups for “keeping youngsters active” and urged residents to report anti-social behaviour.
