Isaan fighters shine at Barnsley Metrodome showpiece

Four young fighters from the Isaan Muay Thai training centre in Oldham competed at the Barnsley Metrodome, with three securing European number one spots. Tommy Sheridan (12), Jac Yates (14), Danny Ferris (17), and Brayden Watson (18) showcased impressive performances, with Yates, Ferris, and Watson winning their respective bouts and titles. Head coach Ste Donnelly praised the gym's production of quality fighters and their impact on Oldham's sporting history.

Isaan Muay Thai fighters dominated the Sandee fight series at Barnsley Metrodome, with three of four competitors claiming European number one rankings and Golden Belt titles.

Jac Yates, 14, from Chadderton, secured his European crown with a commanding performance against Scotland’s Connor from Coliseum gym, earning both the top ranking and prestigious Golden Belt honors. Danny Ferris, 17, from Fitton Hill, delivered a standout showing in his local derby against Jack Turner from Bournes Muay Thai, dropping his opponent with knees in round two before controlling the fight to claim victory and the European number one spot at -51kg.

Brayden Watson, 18, from Derker, edged out MSA Huddersfield’s Tom Littlewood in a tactical battle that saw Watson’s sweeps and body kicks prove decisive against Littlewood’s late pressure tactics in rounds four and five. The victory secured Watson’s SFS European number one position.

Tommy Sheridan, 12, from Failsworth, pushed Unit 1’s Alfie to the limit in their -51kg European title fight, showcasing slick defense and sharp kicking through the middle rounds before Alfie’s strength proved decisive in the championship rounds.

Isaan head coach Ste Donnelly praised his gym’s success: “Our production line of fighters is off the scale at the minute and we have a bunch of very hungry fighters in the gym right now. We have been consistently turning out quality fighters from scratch since 2016, and I believe we are making history in Oldham and I’m very proud of that.”
