Isaan boxers are in seventh heaven

Eight boxers from Isaan Gym in Oldham participated in the Sandee Open tournament at the Barnsley Metrodome, achieving seven wins and one loss, resulting in British Sandee Open champions.

Eight young fighters from Isaan Gym conquered the UK’s toughest Muay Thai competition, returning to Oldham with seven championship titles from the annual Sandee Open tournament at Barnsley Metrodome.

The junior boxers, who fight up to three times in a single day to claim their categories, delivered an exceptional performance against the nation’s best competitors. The victorious team includes Jac, 14, from Chadderton; Mikie, 11, from Derker; Leo, 12, and James, 10, from Royton; Danny, 17, from Fitton Hill; Harry, 14, from Grotton; Freya, 15, from Failsworth; and Caelen, 12, from Derker.

“They have all done it the hard way,” said Isaan head coach Ste Donnelly, who watched his fighters claim seven wins against just one loss throughout the competition. “Isaan is the most active Muay Thai gym in Oldham, producing quality fighters and our success is growing.”

Donnelly credited his coaching team for the triumph, praising “right hand man Ethan Flight and Alex” for their work cornering fighters and ensuring the team’s wellbeing throughout the demanding tournament.
