Investigators are appealing for a key witness following the death of an 88-year-old woman who was helped by a man after getting stuck in tram doors at Oldham Central Bee Network tram stop on 14 February 2025. The woman was found deceased a week later. The man is not a suspect but may have key information. Authorities are keeping an open mind about the cause of death and urge anyone with information to come forward.

Police Appeal to Trace Good Samaritan Who Helped Pensioner Trapped in Tram Doors

Greater Manchester Police are trying to identify a man who came to the aid of an 88-year-old woman after she became trapped in the doors of a stationary tram at Oldham Central Bee Network stop on the morning of Friday 14 February 2025.

The woman was later found dead at her home on Saturday 22 February. Detectives say they are keeping an open mind about whether her death is linked to the earlier incident and stress that the man they wish to speak to is not a suspect.

Investigators from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) have reviewed CCTV and carried out house-to-house enquiries but have so far been unable to trace the passer-by who helped free the pensioner.

Investigative Support Officer Aislinn Sweeney said: “We believe this man may have important information that could assist our inquiry. He is categorically not under suspicion; we simply need to understand what happened during the initial incident.

“Anyone who recognises the man, or who was at the tram stop around 10 am on 14 February, is urged to contact us on 0161 856 4741 or via 101 quoting incident 461 of 22/02/2025. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
