Three Men Arrested in Greater Manchester Child Exploitation Investigation

Police arrested three men across Greater Manchester this morning as part of an ongoing investigation into the historical sexual exploitation of teenage children in Oldham. The suspects, aged 34, 45, and 65, were taken into custody following simultaneous dawn raids at addresses in Oldham, Rochdale, and Bolton.

All three men are being questioned on suspicion of rape relating to two victims who were under 16 at the time of the alleged offences two decades ago. The 65-year-old suspect faces additional charges of meeting a child following sexual grooming, and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity or trafficking.

Today’s arrests mark a significant development in Operation Sherwood, a complex investigation led by Greater Manchester Police’s Child Sexual Exploitation Major Investigation Team with support from Oldham’s complex safeguarding hub and Oldham Council.

Assistant Chief Constable Steph Parker, lead for Protecting Vulnerable People, said: “We are more determined than ever to secure long-awaited justice for the victims and survivors at the centre of our investigation into the exploitation of teenage children in Oldham two decades ago. Today’s action is the result of extensive evidence and intelligence gathered as part of our dedicated operation. This work is ongoing, and we are now in a position to actively pursue suspects we have identified.”

The investigation team continues to work with specialist support partners to provide tailored care packages for survivors.
