Investigation launched following disturbance in Brinnington

Police launched an investigation after reports of a suspected firearms discharge during a disturbance in Brinnington, resulting in six arrests and property searches across Stockport.

Gunfire erupted late Thursday night on Dent Close in Brinnington, prompting a swift armed response after terrified residents reported a suspected firearms discharge.

Police stormed the Lapwing Lane address just after 22:40 BST on 9 April, finding no casualties but launching a major investigation that has so far netted six arrests. Five men—aged 17, 20, 28, 34 and 45—were detained at the scene on suspicion of affray and have since been released on bail.

Detectives escalated the inquiry in the early hours of Saturday, battering their way into three Stockport properties under warrant. A 19-year-old man was seized during the raids and remains in custody on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

Detective Sergeant Kirsty Pierce of Stockport CID urged witnesses to come forward. “We understand incidents of this nature can cause concern within the community and, whilst there are several lines of enquiry ongoing, this is believed to be an isolated incident,” she said. “We are currently asking for anyone who has CCTV, has witnessed this incident, or has any other information, to come forward by contacting us on 101 or via our website, quoting incident number 3758 of 09.04.26.
