"I don't cry all the time like I used to" - mum reveals how taking part in a parenting course has changed her family life

A 10-week parenting course offered by Oldham Family Hubs has positively impacted local parents, helping them manage emotions, improve family relationships, and form support networks.

Eleven parents who completed a 10-week Family Links Nurture Programme at Oldham Library say the course has transformed how they handle stress at home. The programme, delivered by the Oldham Parenting Team through Family Hubs, teaches techniques for managing emotions and building stronger relationships with children.

Louise Hall, mother of three, said the sessions have changed her reactions in tense moments. “I’m dealing with things now in a different way. In situations where I’d shout, it has helped me to remain calm. I used to cry all the time but now I don’t cry all the time like I used to,” she explained. Sherree Hopkins, who has two daughters, found the course helped her recognise when to step back. “My eldest is now coming to me more and my youngest is more understanding of herself and her sister,” she noted.

South American father Jonathan Martinez attended with interpreter Sally Mitchell, who also received a completion certificate. “I have found it really helpful and learnt new qualities. It has helped me to really bond with my three children,” Martinez said. Fatoom Dar added the reminder that “we are not alone” was one of the most valuable lessons.

The next programmes begin 15 January at Oldham Library and 23 January at Failsworth Town Hall. Parents can register by emailing [email protected].
