Greater Manchester may get a 'much needed' new police station - there's one big problem

Plans for a new police station in Oldham, Greater Manchester, have been criticized as 'poor and impractical' due to the lack of holding cells in the proposed design. The current station is reportedly 'falling apart,' and its custody area is unusable, forcing officers to transport suspects to Tameside or other distant locations. While Oldham Council insists on including custody suites, Deputy Mayor Kate Green stated there is 'no immediate intention' to include them, citing sufficient capacity at the upcoming Longsight station. Local councillors and residents have expressed frustration over the lack of visible policing and custody facilities in Oldham.
