Friezland Brass Band embarks on a tour of the Isle of Man this weekend, presenting three free concerts alongside local ensembles.
The band will share the stage with the Manx Youth Band, Onchan Silver Band and Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band at venues across the island. Their programmes blend traditional marches and hymns with contemporary arrangements by award-winning composer and conductor Max Stannard, featuring music from Robbie Williams, Oasis and Guns n Roses.
Despite being unregistered, Friezland has built a strong reputation in contests, winning their fourth and Unregistered Section prizes at Boarshurst and Red Admiral March and Hymn contests, plus several trophies at Whit Friday. They also claimed the Most Entertaining Programme Award at the inaugural Red Admiral Entertainments Contest.
“We are delighted to be able perform alongside local bands who have been wonderful in supporting our tour,” said Musical Director Max. “The concerts are in some great locations and we hope to see lots of people enjoying our performances.”
Band Chairman Andy Sheldon noted: “It’s taken a lot of organising to put the tour together and we are grateful to all of the local business and individuals who supported our fundraising efforts and our friends from the bands on the Isle of Man who have welcomed us so readily.”
